Robbie was elected Presbytery Secretary on 24th November, at our last Zoom meeting of presbytery.
Robbie’s appointment will be a great benefit to our life as a Christian community in the ACT, as well as in our far-flung rural centres. Commencing this month, he will assist us to operate efficiently in a co-ordinating and empowering role across our diverse congregations.
Robert Tulip was born in Epping NSW in 1963 and is a lifelong member of the Uniting Church. Robbie been married to Caroline Reid since 1988 and they have two adult children, Alex and Diana. Since moving to Canberra in the 1990s he has worshipped at Kippax Uniting Church, where he is Council Secretary and a lay worship and music leader. Robbie’s strong interest in Christian theology and philosophy was inherited from his parents Jim and Marie Tulip and developed through degrees at Macquarie University (BA Hons 1985 and MA Hons 1991). He also has a graduate diploma in foreign affairs from Monash/ANU. He manages the ANU Chaplaincy and supports the work of the Australian Student Christian Movement. Robbie worked in the Australian Public Service (AusAID and DFAT) from 1988 to 2017, mainly in management of the aid program to Papua New Guinea, where he lived for two years. He also worked in a range of development policy areas including climate change, agriculture, infrastructure, financial inclusion, mining and private sector. He plays classical guitar and piano and sings. His ongoing interests include music, astronomy, climate change and theology.
We are truly blessed to have Robbie on board, and pray that he will find his new role to be fulfilling and fruitful.
